Home EV Charger Installation

Home EV charger installation with New EV Chargers Tonbridge starts with a survey of your supply, your consumer unit and where you park, whether you live in Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells or a village nearby. From that we recommend a charger position, a cable route and a price that covers everything the job needs.

On the day, the charger is fitted on its own dedicated circuit with the correct protection, tested, connected to your Wi-Fi and set up in its app. You get the certificate and the Building Regulations notification once it is done.

Why Choose Us

Plenty of firms fit chargers as a sideline. We fit nothing else, so the survey questions are the right ones: is the main fuse big enough, is the earthing suitable for outdoor charging, and does the consumer unit have room. If the answer to any of those is no, you hear it at the survey with the reason and the cost, not halfway through the installation. Our work is covered by our NICEIC registration.

What a Home Installation Includes

Most homes take a 7kW single-phase charger, which adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range for every hour plugged in, depending on the car. The cable runs from your consumer unit to the charger by the neatest safe route, clipped or in conduit outside. Where your supply is PME earthed, open-PEN protection is provided, either inside the charger or with an earth rod, as the wiring regulations require.

How We Can Help

Not sure whether your home is ready for a charger? Send us a photo of your meter, main fuse and consumer unit with a rough idea of where the car parks.

We can usually tell you from those whether the installation is straightforward or whether something needs upgrading first, and we will say so before you book a visit.

Checking Your Supply First

An electric car charging at 7kW draws about 32 amps for hours on end, often while the oven, shower and heating are also running. That is why we look at the incoming supply before anything else. Most homes have a 60, 80 or 100 amp main fuse, and the charger has to fit alongside everything else you use.

Where the margin is tight, a charger with load management reads the house demand and slows the charge when you need the power elsewhere. Where the main fuse is too small, we explain how to ask the network operator to upgrade it, so you are not left guessing.

Why a Proper Home Charger Matters

A three-pin plug lead is fine for the odd top-up, but a household socket was never designed to supply a heavy load for eight hours every night. A wallbox charges several times faster on a circuit designed for it, with protection against the faults that matter outdoors.

A smart charger can also be scheduled for cheaper overnight tariffs and locked when you are away. Fitted by a registered electrician, the installation is certified and notified, which matters when you sell the house or make an insurance claim.
